About the Coordination for Gender Research

The Coordination for Gender Research is tasked with strengthening, coordinating, and supporting gender research across the University of Copenhagen (UCPH). This is achieved through various efforts to promote collaboration and communication related to gender research, as well as by fostering synergies between different areas of gender research at UCPH.

The unit serves as a platform for researchers, educators, and students engaged with gender across faculties and disciplines at the university. Its work focuses on three main areas: research, teaching, and networking and dissemination.

Research

The Coordination aims to gather and coordinate gender research across both emerging and established fields, while also supporting and enhancing collaboration between research environments with an interest in gender.

Teaching

The Coordination seeks to strengthen, consolidate, and support teaching initiatives with a gender perspective across UCPH. This contributes to a cross-disciplinary approach to gender and diversity in education and enhances students’ knowledge of gender issues.

Collaboration and Dissemination

The Coordination supports the development and continued relevance of gender research by making visible and communicating the breadth of gender-related research at UCPH—both internally and externally.

The Coordination’s tasks are specified through the following selected activities:

  • Development and issuance of a Gender Certificate
  • Organization of two annual events: one external (e.g., March 8th) and one internal (e.g., Gender Research Day)
  • Hosting of bimonthly gender research network meetings across faculties (Gender Lunch)
  • Annual cross-faculty thesis preparation seminar (Kønsværket) in collaboration with the Royal Danish Library
  • Production and distribution of a monthly newsletter
  • Editorial and production support for the journal Kvinder, Køn & Forskning

Quality assurance and institutional anchoring of activities

The Coordination is embedded within the Centre for Gender, Sexuality and Difference at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics (NORS) and is led by an appointed senior academic, Camilla Brunn Eriksen and supported by a coordinator, Marie Ahlberg Andersen. The broad, interdisciplinary scope of the Coordination’s activities is ensured by a reference group with representatives from all UCPH faculties. This organizational framework supports the strong anchoring and ongoing development of relevant activities for staff and students across the university.

Dissemination

The Coordination’s activities are communicated via Facebook, the website, a monthly newsletter, and UCPH’s internal channels. Together, these serve as vital means of information dissemination and help support the significant interest among UCPH students in gender-related teaching and research. In addition, the Coordination supports the editorial work of the journal Women, Gender & Research.
