Olena Hankivsky is a world-leading expert in Intersectional Research and Policy. 

Bio

Olena Hankivsky (Institute for Intersectionality Research and Policy, Simon Fraser University) is trained as a political scientist and is an internationally recognised expert in gender mainstreaming and intersectionality-based analysis. Dr Hankivsky has 25+ years’ experience working across academic, government, NGO and international organisations. She has also been a Visiting Professor at the Graduate Institute, Geneva, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Columbia University and was previously a Gender and Equity Chair at The University of Melbourne. She is the lead author of Intersectionality-Based Policy Analysis Framework (IBPA) (2012), the first global tool for operationalising intersectionality (IBPA 2.0 forthcoming 2026), and co-editor of the Palgrave Handbook of Intersectionality in Public Policy (2019), with a second edition forthcoming 2026. She has recently (2025) completed The United Nations Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) intersectionality-informed gender analysis toolkit and Intersectionality: A pathway for more inclusive, youth-oriented and gender-responsive agrifood systems (FAO) (2024).
